The White Crowned Sparrow
is probably one of the most recognizable birds with its crown stripes of black and white(and orange/pink beak).
However white crowned sparrows can be difficult to recognize when "immature", with their different colorings. Here are several pictures that are most likely the white crowned sparrow.

White Crowned immatures VS Chipping Sparrows
As a beginning birder: the white crown sparrow immature can be mistaken for a chipping sparrow. Quick id tip: The (immature) white crowned sparrows will have a orange/pink beak (chipping usually dark beak).
